Activities/Projects at Galileian Plus
The activities are sorted in reverse chronological order with respect to their start date.
VULSAR project (2011-now)
VULSAR is pilot project commissioned by the Italian Space Agency and co-financed by Galileian Plus, in cooperation with SISTEMATICA spa, the UNIPV's Remote Sensing Lab and EUCENTRE. The main goal of the project is the development of a SW platform able to generate seismic vulnerability maps over urban areas: the maps are provided to users via a web-based GIS environment backed by an ArcGIS Server instance.
I am currently involved into the project as SW manager and system architect. My contributions go to the requirements collection and architectural design processes, as well as to the engineering of the web-based GIS platform's front-end.
GIS administration consultancy (2011)
In spring 2011 I had a three months consultancy at AGIP KCO (San Donato Milanese, I) on behalf of ESRI Italia, which belongs to the same holding of Galileian Plus and is one of its main business partners.
My duty was to grant the correct application of corporate policies in geoDB usage and develop tools for data workflow automatization (geoDB and raster data replication) and systen status reporting.Developed softwares
- various CLI tools [Python]
WebGIS SCADA platform (2011-now)
This is an internal follow-on, in cohoperation with Boviar srl, of the prototype developed for IRPI-CNR.
My roles in this activity were essentialy the same as in the development of the platform prototype.Developed softwares
- further developments on server-side logic of webGIS SCADA platform [PHP]
WebGIS SCADA platform prototype (2010)
This work was commissioned by IRPI institute of CNR to Boviar srl and was realized by Galileian Plus as a sub-contractor. The end item was a prototypal SCADA software platform allowing the user to easily monitor and control sensor networks and their related data acquisitions via a web-based GIS environment. The platform is a web-application and was entirely built on Free and Open Source Softwares.
I enjoyed very much this activity, as it involved a strong "from-scratch" design phase (requirements negotiation, database design, architectural design) and then a fast-paced consequent development. My main role was as software manager as well as developer: my duties ranged from database schema engineering and platform architecture design to the development of the whole server-side part of the platform.Developed softwares
- server-side logic of webGIS SCADA platform [PHP]
- backend scripts for data conversion and data import into the database [bash scripting]
GOCE-Italy project (2009-now)
GOCE-Italy is a research project whose target is to employ the gravimetric data collected by satellite GOCE in order to accurately measure Earth's gravitational field. The project's main client is Italian Space Agency, while Galileian Plus is sub-contracting many of the project's management activities.
I worked briefly as software developer and as ICT helper on this project.Developed softwares
- micro-acquirer (CLI tool for automatic GNSS RINEX files acquisition [Java])
- micro-acquirer-gui (GUI for micro-acquirer [Java])
- micro-report (CLI tool for GNSS RINEX archives completeness reporting [Java])
- micro-placer (CLI tool for GNSS data archiving [Java])
SISMA project (2008-2011)
SISMA was a pilot project financed by the Italian Space Agency. Galileian Plus was prime contractor of the activity and carried out a close cohoperation with several Italian universities. The main goal of the project was the development of a prototypal system providing support to seismic hazard evaluation: this has been done by integrating into a Java supervising infrastructure many different scientific programs, developed by the academic partners, in order to create seismic risk maps.
My roles in the project have been many: at first I worked as a Java software developer, then as software engineer and - in the last year of the project - as quality assurance manager.Developed softwares
- sisma-acquirer (tool for automatic GNSS RINEX files and ancillay data acquisition [Java])
- sisma-driver (tool for SISMA process execution control and scheduling and SISMA archive management [Java])
- sisma-hci (GUI for sisma-acquirer and sisma-driver tools [Java])
- sisma-ingestor (tools for textual/binary data ingestion to shapefiles [bash scripting])
